The College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (the “College”) has become aware of an individual who is not an occupational therapist but who may be representing himself as one. The individual has used the names Casey Cheung, Kelvin Cheung, Karl Cheung and Kelly Cheung. Learn more here.

Controlled Act of Psychotherapy Update

For those who are paying attention to the controlled act of psychotherapy regulation process, discussions with the Ministry of Health continue. These discussions have resulted in some changes to the draft regulation that the College sent to the Ministry in July last year. This draft incorporated feedback the College had received from registrants, members of the public and other stakeholders.

Information on the Missing Persons Act

Ontario’s Missing Persons Act is a new law that came into effect on July 1, 2019 that may impact health care professionals, including OTs. This Act expands the tools available to police when attempting to locate missing individuals. A “missing person” is defined as someone whose whereabouts are unknown and, either, the person has not been in contact with people who would likely be in contact with that person or there is a reasonable fear for that person’s safety, and police were not able to find this individual after making reasonable efforts to do so.

Quality Assurance Program: Interim Process - 30 registrants to be selected in December

The College is developing a more efficient and effective process for selecting OTs who would benefit from in-depth assessment of their skills and knowledge. The new process will be called Competency Assessment.
