Call for New Practice Subcommittee Members

The College is seeking two occupational therapists to join the Practice Subcommittee.

The Subcommittee is currently seeking two occupational therapists who have worked in one of the following practice settings for the last 5 years: community care and support services (home care), adult mental health, and acute care (hospital).

The deadline to apply is Friday, November 10, 2023.

Governance Updates and Reform at COTO

Governance modernization has been a significant priority for the College since 2020. The Board of Directors began to implement changes to the governance structure through bylaw changes to align with best practices.

With all these changes, we are sharing more information and in the near future, new opportunities for registrants to get involved and make a difference.

Professional Liability Insurance Reminder: Update your insurance information within 30 days of a change

Occupational therapists, your professional liability insurance may be expiring soon. Check your policy for your expiration date and renew your policy before it expires. You need to update your insurance information with the College within 30 days of a change.

September 30: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

This week, on September 30th, we acknowledge the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.

As of Right rules

The Ontario government recently published guidance regarding the As of Right rules that came into effect on July 24, 2023. As of Right rules allow physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and medical laboratory technologists registered in other Canadian provinces and territories who meet specific conditions to immediately start working in hospitals and long-term care homes in Ontario, without having to first register with one of the province’s health regulatory colleges

Online Process for Vulnerable Sector Checks in Toronto

Starting Tuesday, September 5, 2023 Vulnerable Sector (VS) Checks for residents of Toronto can be completed online.

Police record check applicants will be able to complete the entire process online improving response times and giving applicants the ability to track submissions.

Listen to the College's seasonal radio spot to educate the public about occupational therapy and our role as the regulator of occupational therapists.

COVID-19 and Seasonal Respiratory Illnesses

Ontario’s Ministry of Health released a new Seasonal Respiratory Pathogens Readiness and Response Planning Guide.

If an occupational therapist or their client have any symptoms of illness, they can complete the Ministry of Health’s online Self-Assessment Tool to determine if self-isolation is required.

Risk assessments continue to be an essential part of providing safe and effective occupational therapy service delivery.
