The College is developing an evidence-informed process and tools to assess the continuing competence of occupational therapists (OTs) as part of the Quality Assurance (QA) program.
Based on research conducted by the College and input by experts in the area of competency assessment, a new, innovative, risk-based process has been determined. The new process includes the following steps:
- Risk-based selection
- Additional screening (such as a remote or virtual interview)
- Peer and Practice Assessment
Assessing continuing competence is a cornerstone of the College’s legislated mandate to ensure the public receives safe, effective, ethical care from occupational therapists. The College is planning to pilot these new steps in the next few years, starting with a pilot of the risk-based selection process during the 2021-2022 registration year.
