On April 20, 2020, the College posted an order issued by the government limiting health care workers to a single long-term care location.
The government revised that order on April 24, 2020 to allow hospitals and other health service providers to support long-term care homes with staff and other services they urgently need to combat COVID-19.
This means hospitals and health service providers will now be able to deploy staff within the organizations to different locations and in long term care homes. According to the order, deployment of staff pursuant to this order does not change the staff employment status with the health service provider.
Public Health has confirmed that hospital workers who complete shifts within a long-term care home can work in multiple locations. Further, hospital workers deployed to a long-term care home in an outbreak can return to their home facility and self-monitor for symptoms if asymptomatic and appropriate infection prevention and control precautions were followed, with no breaches in personal protective equipment (PPE) use.
