The College's Standards for Psychotherapy have been revised following public consultation. These revised standards will come into effect on August 1, 2018.
The Standards for Psychotherapy outline what the public should expect from occupational therapists who are practising psychotherapy or the controlled act of psychotherapy in Ontario.
Key changes include:
- New Definition of Psychotherapy
- New Standards:
- Use of Title Psychotherapist
- Competence
- Maintaining Competence
- Psychotherapy Supervision
- OTs Acting as Supervisors
- Supervision of Students
- Occupational Therapist Assistants
The College has also developed a new Practice Resource – Determining When the Standards for Psychotherapy Apply
Other changes include:
- Expectations for Professional Boundaries updated to include specific language prohibiting personal or sexual relations during or following psychotherapy treatment
- General Characteristics of Psychotherapy and Counselling Appendix Updated
- New Supervision Agreement Considerations Appendix
