Discipline Summary

Julie Robinson (2015)

On November 2, 2015, the Discipline Committee of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario found that Ms. Julie Robinson committed acts of professional misconduct by engaging in sexual abuse; engaging in an act or omission that would be reasonably regarded by the members of the profession as disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional conduct; by engaging in conduct unbecoming an occupational therapist; and failing to maintain a standard of practice of the profession.

The Discipline Committee found that while working at an out-patient program at a hospital in spring 2008, Ms. Robinson sexually abused a client by engaging in a sexual relationship with him while she was his treating occupational therapist. The Discipline Committee also found that Ms. Robinson had inappropriately discussed the client's treatment progress with his then wife while Ms. Robinson was engaging in a sexual relationship with him. The client was discharged from the out-patient program in August 2008. The client and Ms. Robinson have since married.

On November 2, 2015, the Discipline Committee ordered and directed that:

  • the Registrar revoke Ms. Robinson's certificate of registration, effective immediately
  • Ms. Robinson appear before the panel to be reprimanded on a date to be fixed by the College
  • Ms. Robinson reimburse the College for funding provided to clients under the program required under section 85.7 of the Health Professions Procedural Code, and shall post security acceptable to the College in the amount of $16,000.00 to guarantee the payment of any amounts she may be require to reimburse the College
  • Ms. Robinson is required to immediately pay to the College costs in the amount of $2,000.00.
