The College is pleased to publish a new Privacy Legislation and Occupational Therapy Practice guidance resource.
This resource provides additional information about privacy legislation and how it may apply to your practice. It is available in English and French.
Although the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA) remains the most relevant legislation in Ontario, other privacy legislation may apply to many occupational therapists. Aligning relevant privacy legislation with your practice
is an important consideration in the delivery of competent, safe, ethical care.
The College guidance resource includes:
- Information about the three privacy laws:
- Personal Health Information Protection Act
- Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act
- Privacy Act
- Overview of roles and responsibilities of the Health Information Custodian and Agents of the Health Information Custodian
- Practice considerations for consent, record keeping and privacy breaches
- Access to additional privacy and security resources.
