October 28, 2021 Board Meeting Highlights

Recognizing the ongoing need for physical distancing during the pandemic, the Board meeting was held virtually.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Education

On October 27, the Board attended an education session on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for Leadership with Dr. Nafeesa Jalal, PhD. The session provided an opportunity for shared learning and reflection at the governance table. The College continues to advance its work to embed diversity, equity and inclusion throughout all areas of the organization.

Annual Report 2020-2021

The College’s 2020 Annual Report was accepted by Council and will be made available online in French and English. The report highlights the work of the College to protect the public and summarizes outcomes of the first year of its 2020-2023 strategic plan.

Bylaw Revisions

Proposed changes to the College bylaws resulting from annual review process were approved. The updated version will be posted online in the coming days.

Policy to Approve Agents of the College

The updated Policy to Approve Agents of the College was approved and will be shared online. The College regularly retains registrants (termed agents) to assist with work that cannot be performed by staff. This policy sets out the objective criteria for the approval of agents.

Conflict of Interest Policy for Directors and Committee Members

The updated Conflict of Interest Policy was approved and will be shared online. This policy defines conflict of interest as it relates to College work and provides guidance to Directors and Committee Members with respect to their duties.

Culture, Equity, & Justice in Occupational Therapy Practice

The new document on Culture, Equity, and Justice in Occupational Therapy Practice was approved by the Board.

The new Competencies (release pending) include a section titled “Culture, Equity, & Justice”, which encourages occupational therapists to practice in ways that are equitable, anti-oppressive, culturally safer, and inclusive This new resource will guide occupational therapists to operationalize the new Competencies into their practices. The resource will be available online in early 2022.
