About the role

The Quality Assurance (QA) Program at the College is currently seeking several individuals to join our fantastic team of Peer Assessors. Peer Assessors play a key role within the QA Program by conducting competency assessments and practice consultations with registrants on behalf of the College. Peer Assessors identify learning needs and support continuing competence.

There is also opportunity to provide as needed services such as practice mentorships or practice monitoring, for registrants who must complete certain education requirements for the Investigations and Resolutions (I&R) program.

Commitment

Peer Assessors work on contract and are paid for their time at a set rate. They are asked to conduct a minimum of two (2) assessments per month during the assessment periods. Some flexibility in schedule is an asset.  All assessments are done virtually. Each assessment takes approximately 5 hours to complete, which includes an introductory meeting, a 2-2.5-hour interview and report writing.

What we look for in a candidate:

  • excellent interpersonal, communication skills
  • ability to critically appraise practice information and provide recommendations
  • an interest in enhancing the profession of occupational therapy
  • familiarity with Standards for Practice and other COTO resources
  • experience facilitating interviews or mentorship of others
  • good standing with the College (see policy below for details)
  • 5+ years experience as an occupational therapist in the province of Ontario;
  • 2+ years experience in one area of occupational therapy practice;
  • availability for a virtual 1-hour orientation and a full day training session in spring
  • currently not on the College’s Board or serving on a College Committee
  • technical knowledge and equipment to conduct virtual assessments, access the portal, write reports, etc.
  • meets the eligibility criteria as per the Policy on the Approval of Supervisors and Other Agents of the College
  • diversity in practice, language and lived experience
